The 'Mother Hang' - Hang Prototype

This post was updated on .
Possibly the only video online of the 'Mother Hang' Hang prototype...

"I believe this was the 1st prototype of the Hang created by Felix Rhoner & Sabina Scharer introduced to the world in early 2001..."

The Mother Hang is the large Hang that can be seen in forward-centre in this well known pic: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=55776450637&set=pb.55647630637.-2207520000.1371092659.&type=3&theater

The Mother Hang can also be seen featured in the following documentary on the PANArt Hang...

Re: The 'Mother Hang' - Hang Prototype

Sabina Schärer and Felix Rohner call it the "baby", not the "mother". And this is really what is was. It was put together spontaniously from two Pang steelpan shells laying arround and gave them a very first idea of a possible handplayed instrument. But it didn't function well as an instrument. The real Hang was then developed in a longer researching process in 2000 and introduced in spring 2001.

Re: The 'Mother Hang' - Hang Prototype

Thank you, Hangblog,

I've always heard of it referred to as the "Mother Hang", but if Sabina Schärer and Felix Rohner themselves call it, "Baby", who am I to argue... :)

Good to know!
